The Andalusia 11-to-12-year-old Little League All-Stars knocked Covington County out of the district tournament Monday night in East Brewton, winning 8-2.
Andalusia’s Hunter Earnest scored two runs to help lead his team to a six-run win over Covington County.
Earnest scored his first run on an RBI single from Devan McDuffie. Earnest reached with a walk.
His second run came in the second inning when he stole home.
In the first inning, the four other runs were scored by Lane Sirmon, Kendarius Townsend, Gus Maraman and Todd Wright.
Sirmon came in on an RBI single from Townsend, Townsend and Maraman came in on errors and Wright scored on an RBI single from Brayden Burkhardt.
Covington County scored one run in the bottom of the first inning when Ashton Mayhall stole home. In the third inning, Mayhall scored the second run on an RBI single from Daryl George II.
After Earnest scored his second run in the second inning, Andalusia added two runs in the fifth inning when Maraman and Connor Hammon scored on errors.
Andalusia’s Brayden Burkhardt was 2-for-4 with two singles; Lane Sirmon was 0-for-4 with one run; Hunter Earnest was 0-for-4 with two runs; Kendarius Townsend was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run; Devan McDuffie was 1-for-3 with one single; Gus Maraman was 0-for-3 with one run; Todd Wright was 0-for-2 with one run; Connor Hammon was 0-for-1 with one run; and Cal McCalman was 1-for-2 with one single.
Covington County’s Ashton Mayhall was 1-for-3 with one double and two runs.
Opp 4, Andalusia 2
On Sunday night, Andalusia lost to Opp, 4-2.
Andalusia’s Kendarius Townsend and Connor Hammon scored for their team.
For Opp, Holt Hall, Zane Hollis and Colt Harrell scored one run apiece in the third inning.
In the fifth, Brady Vidich scored the last run.
The district tournament will continue tonight with the winners’ bracket game starting at 8 p.m.
The losers’ bracket winner will be determined as well and that game starts at 7 p.m.
The tournament will end on Fri., July 7, if a championship game is necessary.
The losers’ bracket champion would have to defeat the winners’ bracket winner twice in order to play on Friday night.
