Small quake rattles North Alabama

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. (AP) — A small earthquake rattled the areas around Hazel Green and New Market in north Alabama.

The Huntsville Times reports the 1.9 magnitude quake Monday night originated about 8 miles southeast of Fayetteville, Tenn., 10 miles northeast of Hazel Green and 11 miles northwest of New Market.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 1.9 magnitude is generally not felt, and about 8,000 occur each day.
