The second annual Ollie’s Army Gantt Lake poker run was a success despite the gloomy weather produced by the remnants of a tropical depression in the Gulf, organizer Lynsey DuBose said.

“The poker run went amazing,” she said. “It started out a little slow, but picked up once the sun began poking through.”

DuBose said the organization sold around 115 poker hands, which equated to about $8,000 to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to help pay for medical expenses associated with DuBose’s 15-month-old daughter Ollie’s fight with cystic fibrosis.

“There were 20 girls that volunteered to stand on the piers all day,” she said. “These girls did all the hard work.”

DuBose said event participants enjoyed a slide and bounce house, cooked Boston butts chopped up for barbecue sandwiches and boiled peanuts.

DuBose said she wanted to thank the nearly 50 sponsors.

“The sponsors gave $100 or more to help us cover the costs of a poker run,” she said. “Without them, we would have started the day ‘in the hole.’”
