Whether you scream “Yea Alabama,” “War Eagle” of “Let’s go T-R-O-Y,” the countdown to college football is ticking away.

In fact, 85 more days until the most coveted sport by college football fans will begin and I for one, can’t wait.

Whether you’re an Alabama, Auburn or Troy fan, the wait can be one of the longest.

Right now, the media is popping up stories on Auburn going to the White House to celebrate its BCS championship and Alabama players transferring to other schools to play football, to name a couple.

Pretty soon, July will be here before we know it, and that’s when the stories will begin predicting who has the finest skilled athletes and who will make it to the BCS Championship.

To me, the start of football season is July 1, and I’ve always considered that to be a date to circle on my calendar.

By the time mid-July rolls around, high school coaches will gather for a coaches clinic in Enterprise to go over any new or changed rules for the coming athletic year.

In early August, practice will begin and media from newspapers and TV stations will converge to ask their respective coaches what they think about the upcoming high school football season, and predict who the “teams to beat” are.

After that, time will start to roll a little faster and the start of college and high school football will be here before you can say “Bear Bryant.”
