Wanted: Team photos, names

Published 12:01am Saturday, July 23, 2011

Do you want to see your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends in a special section of the newspaper?

On Sat., July 30, the Star-News will publish its annual baseball and softball tab with all teams from Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth baseball, along with Babe Ruth softball and All-Stars.

For the past several weeks, the sports section has been running an ad asking for team pictures and names to be sent to the sports editor.

I have only received a few pictures since then, and that is not enough.

To fill the section, I’ll need approximately 30-40 more team pictures with names.

Right now, I have more than 35 pictures, mostly city teams given to me by Henry Kinsey, along with a few county teams.

This time of year is a stressful time for any sports editor in Alabama, no matter the size of the paper.

For me, the 12-and-under Babe Ruth Softball World Series is right around the corner and football practice will begin on Aug. 1.

Getting ready for football has been keeping me busy — no surprise, right?

In years past, I have had no problem getting pictures from parents and others willing to send them along.

Please send any team pictures you may have to sports@andalusiastarnews.com and include all names of players and coaches in order they are in in the picture.

Thanks so much for helping make this special section of the newspaper what it really is — special.
