If Andalusia High School fans are excited about the Bulldogs’ 10-0 regular season – its first perfect season since 1977 – no fan could be more excited than 7-year-old Drew Seymore.

Drew, the son of head football coach Brian Seymore and his wife, Nicholas, spends lots of time around the game, attending practices, games, and watching sports on television with his dad.

Last week, before the Opp game, Drew started to wonder why ESPN was covering high school games but hadn’t been to Andalusia. He told his father, “Dad, we are good, and I think they should come watch us play.”

Coach Seymore explained that having ESPN cover a game is a big deal and that it’s difficult to pull off.

Undaunted, Drew, got right to work. When the coach woke up the next morning, he found Drew’s handwritten note to ESPN on the kitchen table. Here’s what it said:

Hi! I’m Drew I hope you like this note!

Dear SportsCenter,

I would like it if you would come and watch one of my dad’s football games. It would be an honor if you came. Every day I wake up, turn on the TV and watch SportsCenter with my dad. He is the head coach of Andalusia. We have won nine games in a row and that’s how many games we have had in our season so far! Here is a list of things we do down here in the State of Alabama. We bust jaws, bring the pain, blood everywhere and we are making progress! Here is a score of a game! 63-0! We won! Hope you will take this offer. Circle YES or NO! Please say YES!

Speaking to the Andalusia Rotary Club Tuesday, Seymore said he started his head coaching career here when this year’s seniors were freshmen.

“We’ve sorta grown up together,” he said. “We took a senior picture after the Opp game and those boys wanted my son to be in the picture. That meant a lot to me.”

And Drew’s letter to ESPN? That did, too.

“It shows what you do really matters and makes a lasting impact on our younger generation,” he said.

Drew’s letter has been forwarded to ESPN, but so far, his family hasn’t gotten a response.

The Bulldogs will play Elmore County tonight, Nov. 4, 2011, in the first round of the state playoffs.
