A carload of girl softball players narrowly avoided injury late Friday after a Florala man allegedly threw a brick through their car’s front windshield.

Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole said Robert Henry Bryant, 26, was standing in the roadway in front of his Begonia Street home when the incident occurred.

“There were four girls inside the car who’d just left practice at the high school,” Bedsole said. “Mr. Bryant had apparently had issues with speeders and decided to take it upon himself to get them to slow down.

“(The girls’ car) was randomly selected, and Mr. Bryant stepped out into the road and threw the brick,” he said.

Bryant was arrested and charged with shooting a decoy or missile into an occupied dwelling – a felony – and disorderly conduct. He was initially booked into the Covington County Jail on a $13,000 bond; however, Bryant could face additional charges, Bedsole said.

“We’ve gotten new reports that this wasn’t the first incident,” he said. “The students told officers that on other occasions, Bryant had thrown bottles at other cars.”
