5 LBWCC players selected to ACCC team

Five LBWCC basketball players were selected to the Alabama Community College Conference 2012 Southern League and All-Region teams last week.

On the men’s team, DeMarco Spears of Evansville, Ind., and Michael Bester of Gulfport, Miss., were selected to the first and second teams of the Southern League, respectively. Additionally, Spears was the only player selected to the All-Region team as a second team player.

Spears’ notable stat this season was that he shot 77 percent from the free throw line. Bester shot 47 percent from the field and 61 percent from the line to average 11.39 points per game.

On the women’s team, Kimberly Williams of Athens, Ga., Ivory Smith of Breman, Ga., and Amiria Blakely of Union Springs were selected to the second team on the Southern League team.

Williams averaged 10.52 points per game and shot 74 percent from the free throw line. Smith averaged 5.59 points per game and Blakely averaged 6.26 points per game.

The state divides the teams into southern and northern leagues. Players selected for the league awards were selected from teams in the southern league.

Each league has a first and second team.

Players chosen from all the region teams are chosen from all of the players and teams in the state.
