4 LBWCC players win awards

Four LBWCC baseball players, including two local players, were chosen for awards by the Alabama Community College Conference for the 2012 all-region and all-league teams.

The all-region teams are selected from players in the entire state, and the all-league teams are chosen among each of the three divisions in the conference. LBWCC is in the Southern Division, which has seven teams.

Andalusia native Aaron Haag was chosen to the first team all-region and first team all-southern league. Haag’s batting average was .409; he had a slugging percentage of .678; he had eight doubles, 10 home runs, 46 RBIs and scored 40 runs.

Recently, Haag signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Opp native Josh Thompson was chosen to the first team all-southern league.

Thompson had a .333 batting average; had five doubles; two triples; 21 RBIs; 19 walks; 14 hit by pitches; and scored 37 runs.

Th ompson has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Auburn Unversity at Montgomery.

Thomas Dorminy of Lutz, Fla., was chosen to the second team all-region and first team all-southern league.

Dorminy pitched 67.1 innings; allowed 2.77 earned runs on average; had a 6-3 record; recorded three saves; and his opponent’s batting average was .204. He also tallied 67 strikeouts.

David Carter of Mobile was chosen to the second team all-southern league.

He had a .336 batting average; .520 slugging percentage; had eight doubles; five home runs; 31 RBIs; and scored 29 runs.

Carter has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at AUM.
