Locals compete in Rodeo

After the Go 1 Slack on Thursday, Luke Taylor of Kinston, Clay Elmore of Opp and Maggie Holmes of Andalusia sit in the top 10 of the all-around cowboy and cowgirl competition in the Alabama High School Rodeo Association finals at the Covington Center Arena.

Taylor has 235 total points; Elmore has 140 points; and Holmes has 140 points.

Additionally, Caleb Varner of Red Level has 56 points; Gus Maraman of Andalusia has 27.5 points; Chase Hargrove of Florala has 20 points; and Kim Reed of Pleasant Home has 45 points.

Each competitor builds points throughout the season. After today’s Go 2 Slack, the top 10 from each event advance to Saturday’s round.

The top four in each event after Saturday will advance to nationals in Wyoming.

 

Go 1 Slack – Thursday

• Chase Hargrove of Florala — 12 points in steer wrestling, and 20 points on the season

• Luke Taylor of Kinston — 18 points in calf roping, and 62 points on the season

• Maggie Holmes — 18 points in pole bending, and 55.5 points on the season

• Garret McDonald and Luke Taylor — 14 points each in team roping, and 226 points on the season

• Jordan Whitman and Caleb Varner of Red Level — 16 points each in team roping, and 88 points on the season

• Maggie Holmes — Eight points in barrel racing, and 29 points on the season.

The Go 2 Slack resumes today at 9 a.m., and the night performance is at 7:30.
