RACHEL G. HOLLEY

Rachel G. Holley, 75, of Red Level, passed away June 13, 2012, in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., June 16, at 11 a.m., at Fairmount Baptist Church with the Rev. Joel Calhoun officiating with burial following in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Holley of Andalusia, Jerry (Cecelia) Holley of Greenville, and Tony (Cindy) Holley of Red Level; two brothers, Joe A. Grantham of Andalusia and Herbert (Debbie) Grantham of Huntsville; one sister, Sue (Wayne) Wilkinson of Corpus Christi, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Jefferson Holley; her brother, Joel L. Grantham; and two sisters, Martha Strickland and Laverne Barbaree.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rodgers, Larry Sims, Brandon Sledge, James Sims, Ray Mills and Matthew Holley.

CLEVE WAYNE NORRIS

Cleve Wayne Norris, 50, died Tues., June 12, 2012, at his home in the Carolina Community.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Sat., June 16, at the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include his two sisters, Gail Norris and Dorothy Chavers; one brother, Clarence Norris, all of Andalusia; and two nephews, Thomas Yancey Chavers and Joshua Norris.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Norris, George Norris, Alex Hamby, David Everage and Claude Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Hamby and Bobby Wilcox.

 

IVAN B. ‘PLOWBOY’ PICKRON

Ivan B. “Plowboy” Pickron, 50, of Gantt, died Mon., June 11, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Fri., June 15, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Eiland officiating and burial following in Greenwood Cemetery in Florala.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Pickron of Gantt; his children, Nathaniel (Katie) Pickron, Nicholas (Brittany) Pickron, Kayla (Shane) Davis, Ryan Merrill, all of Andalusia, and Makayla Pickron of South Carolina; his mother, Bettye Ann Pickron of Florala; his grandchildren, Devin Davis, Kayleigh Thomas, Khloe Pickron, Brinlee Pickron and Eli Davis; his sisters, Lois Ann (Mike) Ordes of Birmingham and Callie (Phillip) Johnson of De Funiak Springs, Fla.; his nieces and nephews, Phillip Johnson, Luke Johnson, Callie Beth (Joey) Graham, Michael (Ashley) Ordes, Melissa (Jason) Davis; and several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ivory Pickron.

Pallbearers will be Gene Jackson Sr., Gene Jackson Jr., Roy McCarty, James Bullard, Glen Gunter, James Chappell and David Harrelson.

MARY CLYDE WHITE DOUGLAS

Mary Clyde White Douglas, 88, of the Pleasant Home Community, passed away on June 11, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held today, Fri., June 15, at 11 a.m., at Pleasant Home Baptist Church and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born on March 22, 1924, to Walter and Selma White, she was the first of five children and the only girl. She attended Church Street Elementary School and Andalusia High School. For her 10th and 11th grade years, she attended Pleasant Home School, where she was swept off her feet by Alfred “Alf” Douglas. The couple was married on June 23, 1941.

They always say that behind every good man is a great woman, she truly was this person. She was a helpmate to her husband in every endeavor – from farming to driving an 18-wheeler. Early in their marriage, the couple moved to Sanford, Fla., where they farmed fruit and other agricultural products. Soon, they decided to buy a truck, which allowed them to haul their produce. This quickly turned into two trucks, which led to Alfred Douglas and Sons Trucking and a fleet of 26 trucks. Mrs. Douglas did all the bookkeeping for the company. Because of their dedication and hard work, the Douglas family was selected as Trucker’s News 2010 Great American Trucking Family, a huge honor for Mrs. Douglas. She also ran a truck stop, Alf’s Café, for more than 20 years, and served in every capacity – from chief cook to bottle washer. She also managed to “squeeze in” a 10-year career at J.C. Penney and dressed many a person.

She was a longtime member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school to many, many children. She was truly an example of a Godly woman. She eagerly shared her love of Jesus and instilled character and values into all she encountered.

She is survived by two sons, Billy (Toni) Douglas and Bobby Douglas; a very special nephew, Daniel (Sonny) Douglas; two brothers, Underwood (Iris) White and J.T. (Faye) White; five grandchildren, Billy (Billie Lynn) Douglas, Bridgette (Bruce) Colbert, Janna (Russell) McGlamory, Jonathan (Laura) Douglas and Jeffery Douglas; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband of 47 years, Alfred Douglas; an infant daughter, Barbara Anne Douglas; two brothers, Walter White and Donald White; a granddaughter, Jaime Douglas, and a great-granddaughter, Meredith McGlamory.

Pallbearers will be Brian Kelley, Shannon Kelley, Ken Kelley, Ritchie Kelley, Sidney McKathan and “Little” Donnie Odom.
