Projects need our support

There are two ongoing fundraisers for special structures in the City of Andalusia that need our support.

There are a number of efforts to raise the money for a new Miracle League of Covington County. One of those efforts is a hit-a-thon this Saturday morning at Johnson Park. For a $10 donation,

Donations raised up to $2,500 will be matched by Roy Mohon of the Gitty Up-N-Go stores.

A growing number of people have made pledges to the fund drive. We publish those names in our Saturday editions, and are pleased that that list continues to take up more space. All donations are welcome, but organizers need a number of people to commit $10 per month to the effort. That’s about the price of two fast-food lunches, and helps a very worthy cause.

Another project that appeals to a different audience is the effort to recognize the legions of men and women who put Andalusia on the map through their work at the Andala and Alatex plants. Those people will be recognized with a new apparel workers memorial this fall.

Memorial bricks are available for $100, and are a fitting way to individually honor the workers who toiled there. Forms are available at city hall and from the city’s web site.
