Approximately $1,300 was raised at the Ollie’s Army 5K at the Covington County Cares Day on Saturday.

The 5K is named after Ollie DuBose, 3, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 5 weeks old.

Race director and DuBose’s mother, Linsey, said there were 28 participants in the 5K.

“There were people who weren’t even from Andalusia that came to run,” DuBose said. “I thought that was cool.”

DuBose said the volunteer help was plentiful.

The overall winner was Brian Pittman of Luverne, and the first place overall female winner was Jule Smith of Georgia.

“We had some people who came out and walked it just to support the cause,” DuBose said.

Winners from all age divisions were not available when The Star-News went to press Tuesday night.
