Current AHS players were fired up for Thursday night’s game.

‘Old guys’ win again

Published 12:00am Friday, August 10, 2012

The Andalusia High School football team squared off against former Andalusia players Thursday night in the annual alumni game. The “old timers” proved to be too much for the current football squad, coming away with a 21-20 victory. John Jones and Michael Berry each had a touchdown reception to lead the way for the alumni team. The game was played under 7-on-7 rules and also featured a running clock. Though the alumni came away with the win, they may have to pay for it in the morning. No pads were worn, but perhaps they should have been, as there were several bone crunching collisions.

Head coach Brian Seymour didn’t seem too dissatisfied with the loss. He was just grateful for an opportunity for his team to be on the same field as some of Andalusia’s legends.

“The alumni game is great,” Seymour said. “It’s an opportunity for our guys to learn about the past greats and what they stand for and how much they care about Andalusia. It’s exciting. It’s just an opportunity to carry on the tradition.”
