Florala is bringing back a more knowledgeable bunch of Lady Wildcats as they get ready for another volleyball season.

The Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball squad is composed of sophomores, juniors and seniors. FHS also has a junior varsity squad, composed of seventh, eighth and ninth graders.

This season, FHS volleyball coach Joea McNeil said she’s looking for the girls to “really step it up this year.”

“We’ve been working with (FHS head football) coach (Justin) Jones and his mom came and did some work with us,” McNeil said. “Our girls have developed more knowledge of teh sport in the last two years.

“We’ve moved up a level of understanding, and I think that’ll lead us to being more successful this year,” she said.

Florala will compete in Class 1A, Area 2 with local team Pleasant Home and Kinston.

“Kinston and Pleasant Home are very good teams,” McNeil said. “We feel confident that we’ll be a lot more competitive with them as well.”

The Lady Wildcats’ seniors are Patricia Marsh, and twins, Sierra and Savannah Gibson, who just finished basic training for the National Guard.

“They weren’t here for camp or anything,” McNeil said. “They’ve done a really good job of making it up. They’re in really good physical condition.”

Florala will kick off its season on Thursday at home against Red Level in a varsity only match. Two matches will be played and start time is at 4:30 p.m.

When asked what were some goals the team had lain out, McNeil said they were to “go out there and win some games, have some fun and make it a great season.”
