OHS ‘honored’ to play Elba

Published 12:01am Thursday, August 30, 2012

Opp head football coach Jack Whigham said it’s going to be an “honor” to face Class 2A’s top-ranked and defending state champion Elba tomorrow night at Channel-Lee Stadium.

“They’re extremely talented,” Whigham said. “They still have speed this year like they have in the past.

“We look forward to the game,” he said. “Opp and Elba have always been a rivalry.”

With any defending state champion, there are players on the team who can make a difference.

Whigham said Elba’s Darrean Burks, a junior running back, is talented in the back field. Additionally, he said, senior offensive lineman Harry Griffin is also a threat.

“They’re all very talented,” he said. “We’ve got to play a complete game. We’ve got to try and keep the ball away from them.”

Kick off in Opp on Friday is at 7 p.m.
