Lee declared winner in Florala

Hazel Lee has been declared the winner of Florala’s district 1 council seat race.

At the end of last week’s municipal election, the eight provisional ballots cast could have changed the outcome between Lee, the incumbent with 46 votes, and challenger Connie Sue Buckley, who had 44 votes.

The city council met Tuesday at noon to canvas the election results, where city clerk Kathy Rathel said each of the eight provisional ballots were disregarded by the board of registrar’s office and could not be counted.

“The election results remain the same,” she said.
