Opp and Straughn will face off in a big area volleyball match today in Lady Bobcats territory.

The Lady Bobcats have already defeated the Lady Tigers once before and have a solid 2-0 lead in Class 3A, Area 2 after a recent victory over Excel.

SHS has only played one area match so far in a loss to OHS. The Lady Tigers’ match against Excel last week was postponed until Oct. 1 due to weather.

“Of course, we’re hoping for another win,” OHS coach Christie Spurlin said. “I think the girls are ready and they’re pretty pumped up. They are excited and ready to go.”

Straughn enters today’s contest 4-5 after fall four straight matches since beginning the season.

“We still feel pretty good right now,” SHS coach Marc Tracy said, despite dropping one area match already. “Today’s match is big.

“We still have a shot at wining the area,” he said.

Spurlin said she hopes the girls just keep doing what they’ve been doing.

“A lot of times, our serves make us win,” she said. “Hopefully, we’ll be on with our serves.”

Tracy said he knows OHS is an athletic team, especially when it comes to the Lady Bobcats’ ability to be where the ball is all the time.

“They seem to be everywhere at once,” he said. “Their athleticism has a lot to do with that.”

The JV squads will get started at 4 p.m. Varsity follows immediately after their warm ups.
