Local players shine on gridiron Saturday

Alabama senior linebacker Nico Johnson recorded six tackles in the Crimson Tide’s 52-0 rout over Arkansas on Saturday.

The Andalusia native had three solo and three assists in the win.

In Huntingdon’s 62-17 win over LaGrange College, Ga., former Straughn quarterback Ryne Taylor was 1-of-2 for no yards. However, he did record one carry for 11 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Defensively for the Hawks, Andalusia native Jacard Townsend recorded four tackles (three solo, one assist).

Brannon Bryan, who leads Troy in tackles with 25, had six solo tackles in the Trojans’ 30-24 loss to Mississippi State on Saturday.

Bryan has two more tackles than teammate Kanorris Davis.

Faulkner University traveled to Bluefield, Va., and the Eagles pulled out a 52-10 victory, where Andalusia native Leslie James had five receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Alabama hosts Florida Atlantic; Huntingdon travels to Hampden-Sydney; Troy is at North Texas; and Faulkner is at home against Lindsey Wilson.
