Neal, Banks overall 5K winners

Chris Neal was the overall male winner and Sandy Banks was the overall female winner in the Andalusia Ballet’s Hottest Race in Town 5K Saturday morning.

“It was a beautiful day,” Race Director Shan Burkhardt said. “Starting at 7:30 (a.m.) helped a lot. Last year was way too hot. Hopefully, we’ll have more runners for next year.”

Overall, Burkhardt said she thinks the race went well.

“I think everybody had a good run,” she said.

Neal ran the race in 17 minutes, 59 seconds, while Banks ran it in 20:28.

Stephen Bernstein was the second fastest man in the race, and Tom Rainer was third.

Dana Kennedy and Burkhardt tied for second among women, and Katie O’Neal was third.

Exactly 44 people walked or ran the 5K, which began and ended at the Church Street Cultural Arts Centre.
