A couple weeks ago, Pleasant Home swept rival Kinston in area action at home to win its first ever volleyball match over the Lady Bulldogs in the program’s short history.

To the Lady Eagles, that was a big highlight of their season.

However, last night’s match at home against Opp was an entirely different story.

The Lady Bobcats played PHS close in the first game, pulled away early in the second game and came from behind in the third to win 25-20, 25-14, 27-25 in regular season action.

PHS coach Jerry Davis said he didn’t expect to get beat 3-0.

“They handed it to us (Tuesday night),” Davis said. “We’ve just kind of been waiting for this to happen to us. We beat Kinston a few weeks ago and I think we thought that was the highlight of the year.

“We really haven’t improved a whole lot since that day (Sept. 6),” he said. “Everybody (else) is making some improvement.”

Opp was led by Nisha Stoudemire with six blocks. Stoudemire secured her team’s win on the final point with a block for the Lady Bobcats.

At the end of the third game, Pleasant Home had the momentum and even game point to extend the match to a fourth game.

However, an Opp shot that bounced in on the line tied the game 25-25 to give the Lady Bobcats another edge.

Opp went ahead 15-9 in the second game to tear away and the Lady Eagles squandered a 6-0 lead in the third game.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Eagles won 25-6, 25-5; and in junior high action, PMS won 25-14, 9-25, 15-3.

Pleasant Home hosts New Brockton and Opp hosts Kinston tomorrow night.
