Flo-rala Chief Sonny Bedsole said Bobby Joe Lee, 27, is currently being held in the Covington County Jail under an investigative hold and will be charged with one count each of first-degree rape and first-degree robbery.

Bedsole said the incident occurred before 7 p.m. at the Northside Plaza Apartment Complex.

“At 7 p.m., the Florala Police Department received a report from a 16-year-old girl that she had been raped,” Bedsole said. “Our investigation determined that the victim had left work, dropped off a co-worker and was headed home. She said some people that she thought she knew flagged her down and asked her for a ride toward the Carver Community Center.

“She agreed,” Bedsole said. “That’s when (Lee) allegedly said he had a gun and would shoot her and took her to the apartment. There, he allegedly raped her and took money from her person – all while she believed she was going to be shot.”

The Star-News will continue to follow this story and update it as new details become available.
