Opp’s Cale Pierce earns Player of Week honors

Opp sophomore quarterback Cale Pierce may be an athlete of few words, but this backup quarterback proved Friday night that actions speak louder than words — especially on the gridiron.

Pierce has seen action in the last few games after starting QB Ethan Davis broke his collar bone, and he’s stepped up to the task.

Pierce was 5-of-7 for 138 yards and a touchdown in the Bobcats’ 35-16 region victory over Excel last week and he has earned The Andalusia Star-News Player of the Week honors.

“It was a big region win, and we enjoyed getting the victory,” an unselfish Pierce said about his game last week. “We needed it.”

Pierce connected with Justin Adkins for the first touchdown of the game against the Panthers.

Pierce said he started playing football at 10 years old, in the Opp city termite league.

“I love (football) a lot,” he said.

He’s always played at the quarterback position throughout his young career and he’ll try and help lead the Bobcats to victory this week as they visit their arch rival Andalusia.

Pierce is the son of Carrel Ann Spears and Wesley Pierce of Opp.
