Karate students bring home 1sts

Seven Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students brought home 12 first place finishes from the USYKA Albertville Open Karate tournament on Oct. 13.

Participants competed in weapons, forms and fighting divisions for their age and belt rank. The Andalusia class’s 12 first place awards were out of 20 divisions entered.

Kenny Blackson, Dillon Blackston and Tyler Martin all won first place in every division they entered to lead the local group.

Total team results are as follows:

• Caleb Blackston — third place in brown belt weapons; and first place in brown belt kata and fighting

• Kenny Blackston — first place in brown belt weapons, kata and fighting

• Tyler Martin — first place in green belt weapons, kata and fighting

• Dillon Blackston — first place in yellow belt kata and fighting

• Garrett Blackston — second place in brown belt weapons, third place in brown belt kata and first place in brown belt fighting

• Kyle Burgans — fourth place in green belt weapons and third place in green belt fighting

• Marie Josey — fourth place in black belt youth weapons and youth kata, and first place in black belt youth fighting.
