Andy falls at regionals

Andalusia came out firing on all cylinders Friday, despite falling to Elmore County 3-0 at the Class 4A South Super Regional in Montgomery.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first game 17-25, but AHS coach Angie Grimes said the girls looked better than they have in a while.

“I could tell the things we were working on, we were doing OK,” Grimes said.

AHS went on to fall to ECHS in the second and third games, 14-25, 13-25, respectively, at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.

Stephanie Watts, Andalusia’s libero, had two digs; Shambrieka Burnett and Alexis Lawrence had two aces each on serves; and Tyleshia Malcolm and Lawrence did a good job blocking, the coach said.

“There’s no secret out there about the kind of success we’ve had this year,” Grimes said. “It was just our inability to run an offense. At this level and with competition you will face (in the post season), you need to have some hits.”

Grimes said she was proud of the girls for trying to finish strong.
