Residents in Red Level, River Falls, Gantt and Dozier chose to keep their post offices open, though there will be abbreviated hours.

Debbie Fetterly, spokesperson for the USPS said that at recent meetings, residents had the opportunity to select from four different options.

In Red Level, some 331 surveys were completed and of that number, 285 chose option one, which is to keep the post office open, based on actual office workload.

For example, hours would be reduced from eight hours each weekday to four hours per weekday.

Current Saturday hours will not change as a result of POSTPlan , and access to delivery receptacles will not be impacted.

POSTPlan is a plan to keep post offices across the country open by realigning retail window hours based on customer use.

Fetterly said based on surveys submitted 31 customers said they would like hours from 8 a.m. until noon, while 20 customers preferred 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“The USPS manager, post office operations makes the final determination on the hours based on foot traffic currently at that office,” she said. “Not everyone who filled out the survey commented on hours preferred.”

Red Level will provide six hours of window service each weekday, opening at 7:30 a.m. and closing at 2 p.m., with lunch from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Saturday hours will be 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Post office mail will be available daily for pickup by 9:30 a.m. New hours are effective Jan. 12.

In River Falls, 88 residents completed surveys, and 78 chose option 1.

Fetterly said that effective Jan. 12, River Falls will be open noon until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Daily pickup will be available daily by 2 p.m.

In Gantt, 55 surveys were completed, and 53 customers selected option 1. Fetterly said two customers did not comment.

Effective, Jan. 12, Gantt post office will provide retail hours from 8 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday, and from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Daily pick-up for will be 10 a.m.

In Dozier, 212 surveys were completed, and 179 chose option 1.

Fetterly said a sign was posted at the Dozier post office on Monday, stating that hours will be 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday. Hours are effective Jan. 12, as well.

“Current Saturday window service hours will not be reduced and access to delivery receptacles will not change as a result of the POSTPlan realignment of weekday window service hours,” the sign said. “Customers will have access to their mail receptacles 24 hours a day and post office box mail will be available daily for pick-up by 10 a.m.”

Additionally, residents in Wing will have the opportunity to make the same decision Thurs., Nov. 1, at 6 p.m., at the Wing Fire Department.
