PATRICIA ‘PAT’ HAIR GUNTER

Patricia “Pat” Gunter, 80, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2012, at Bethany House.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., Nov. 3, at 4 p.m., at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel in Opelika. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Sun., Nov. 4, at 2 p.m., at Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Richard McCollough officiating.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1932, in Andalusia, to Voncille Woodham Hair and Charles K. Hair. She was a graduate of Opp High School.

She married Charles Warren Gunter of Andalusia in 1950, and they relocated to Opelika in 1956. She was employed by M. Snower and Company for many years and later owned and operated Furniture Outlet with her two daughters. She was a member of Abundant Life Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Warren Gunter; and her daughter, Jan Cannon.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Doug Knight; her son-in-law, Bobby Cannon; her grandchildren, Ben Webster and family, all of Opelika, Stan Golden of Nashville, Tenn., Faith King and family of Chelsea, and Elliot Knight of Tuscaloosa; her sisters, Jane Wible of Montgomery and Bonnie Culver of Weston, Mo.; and her three great-granddaughters, Claire King, Parrish Webster and Leah Webster.

 

HAZEL POWELL HARRIS

Hazel Powell Harris of Molino, Fla., passed away on Wed., Oct. 31, 2012.

A time of visitation will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment, Fla., on Mon., Nov. 5, from 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., with burial following in the Highlands Baptist Church Cemetery in Molino, Fla. Rose Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; two brothers; one son, Albert Rudd; and her special companion of 22 years, Charles Beard.

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Eugene) Peterson; three sons, Richard (Ana) Snowden, Ray (Cathy) Rudd and Danny (Nita) Rudd; 17 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

DORIS ELLEN (SCROGGINS) BULL

Doris Ellen (Scroggins) Bull, 75, of Daleville, passed away Thurs., Nov. 1, 2012, at the family residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tues., Nov. 6, at the First Baptist Church of Level Plains with the Rev. James Adam Mulliner officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Bull was born June 3, 1937, in Andalusia, and was reared in Covington County. She worked in the insurance industry until she married and moved to Enterprise. She had five children she loved and raised while working as a seamstress. She later met and married the love of her life, Thomas S. Bull. They enjoyed 20 years together while being a central part of their five children’s and 12 grandchildren’s lives before Thomas passed away in 2003. She became the great-grandmother to 12 beautiful babies. In the last few years, she began collecting vintage jewelry for her children and grandchildren. She delighted in finding just the right pieces for each of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sydney and Carrie Jones Scroggins; her husband, Thomas S. Bull; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Max Stuart Skinner of Daleville; four daughters: Laura (Walter) Plentis of Waterford, Mich., Nancy (Bruce) Foss of Daleville, Tara (Freddy) Jackson of Ozark and Tammy (Paul) Hutto of Enterprise; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
