Andalusia went on an 8-0 run with more than a minute left to edge Red Level 58-55 at the Enterprise Wildcats Thanksgiving Tournament on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (1-1) trailed 43-40 after the third period, but fought hard late, AHS boys coach Richard Robertson said.

“We made a bunch of mistakes, but the thing I’m most proud of is that they persevered and hung in there with more time than we’ve had to work with,” Robertson said. “We didn’t play exactly the way I’d like for us to play, but we played hard.”

Robertson added that his Bulldogs forced the issue, causing the Tigers (0-2) to make mistakes.

“Some people stepped up for us,” Robertson said. “I’m hoping we’re going to have more of that.”

Red Level led 15-9 after the first period, but was outscored 19-11 in the second period to trail 28-26 at the break.

RLS boys coach Allen Catrett said turnovers cost the team.

“We got 22 turnovers,” Catrett said. “It’s hard to win.”

Turnovers are what marred RLS with more than a minute left in the game, Catrett said.

“We’ve got to do better defensively,” he said. “We fouled too much.”

Montell Lee led AHS with 19 points. Jalen Cross added 13 to pace the Bulldogs.

Red Level’s Justin Maddox had a double-double, posting 16 points and 11 rebounds. KJ Lawrence had 14 points. Dee Tolbert put in 15 points.

Robertson said besides mistakes, the Bulldogs are still having trouble scoring. AHS lost to Enterprise 49-28 Monday night, where Sam Byrd led all scorers with seven points.

“They played hard and never quit,” Robertson said.

Andalusia’s next game is at 3 p.m. today. Red Level plays at noon.
