Community Christmas “angels” are now in more than 20 Andalusia locations and are ready for “adoption.”

“You can help make a child’s Christmas merry and bright – a child whose needy family may not be able to afford presents under the tree this year,” said volunteer Jan White of the non-profit program funded by the citizens and civic clubs of Andalusia to assist families in financial crisis who live in the Andalusia, Straughn, Red Level and Pleasant Home School districts by providing toys and clothing for children between the ages of 2 and 12.

This year’s distribution event will be held on Fri., Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the Kiwanis building.

Families have registered 575 children, including their clothing sizes and a toy the child has requested, White said.

“Each child has been given an ID number,” she said. “Their information has been written on an angel card, and the angels can be adopted at area businesses.”

Angels can be adopted at the following places:

White said a suggested amount of $60 should be spent on each adopted angel.

Packages, which should include the angel card, can be dropped off at the Kiwanis building on Fri., Nov. 30, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. until noon; and on Sun., Dec. 2, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
