A two-vehicle crash five miles north of Red Level late Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a Georgiana child.  The crash occurred at 5 p.m. on Alabama 55 at the 45  mile marker.

Carter Hanson, 6, was killed when the 2007 Pontiac in which he was a passenger was struck from behind by a 2005 Ford driven by Jeffrey Rutherford of Red Level.

Tiffany Hanson, the driver of the Pontiac, was taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.

No additional information was available from Alabama State Troopers. Witnesses at the scene said Hanson was headed north on Hwy. 55 and was stopped to turn in to a convenience store when her vehicle was struck.
