Covington County has been awarded more than $14,000 in federal funds under the emergency food and shelter national board program.

Elizabeth Seay, director of the Organized Community Action Program (OCAP), said the $14,074 award will be used to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county; however, only local agencies and non-profits can apply.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

• be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government;

• have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination;

• have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and,

• if a private voluntary organization, the organization or agency must have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies – both public and private – are urged to apply by contacting Elizabeth Seay, P.O. Box 1702, Andalusia, AL 36420, or call 334-428-2660 for an application. The deadline for applications to be received is Dec. 14, 2012.
