APD nets 2 more in drug roundup

The Andalusia Police Department arrested a couple Tuesday as a continuation of a pre-Thanksgiving round up.

Sgt. Roger Cender promised last month the first set of arrests, in which four locals were jailed on a variety of drug cha-rges, was only the begi-nning for the dep-ar-tme-nt.

Tu-es-

day, he said the department made good on its promise with the arrest of Douglas Lawrence, 27, and Kathlena N. Norris, 22. The couple was taken into custody at their Snowden Drive home, Cender said.

“These arrests came much like the first set,” he said. “We’d been working some undercover buys with an undercover officer. We were able to document several buys from (both Lawrence and Norris).”

Cender said a search of the home revealed smoking devices, methamphetamine in powdered form, several baggies of marijuana, scales and plastic baggies used to distribute marijuana.

The cases have been in the works for months, and other arrests will follow, he said.

“In fact, we’re searching for another four people as part of this investigation,” Cender said. “In this specific instance, we received information from an anonymous tip, which goes to show that community information is vital to what we do and in getting drugs off our streets.”

Cender said those with information about drug activity within the city limits should contact the APD at 222-1155.

Lawrence is charged with three counts of distribution, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $323,000 bond.

Norris is facing a distribution charge and is being held on a $200,000 bond.
