Lady Dawgs fall to Luverne, 41-33

Andalusia’s Lady Bulldogs suffered a bitter 41-33 loss to Luverne on Tuesday night.

The game went back and forth throughout the contest.

The Lady Tigers held a 13-10 lead after the first period, but AHS outscored LHS 16-12 in the second to take a 26-25 lead at halftime.

It was a dog fight in the third period, as both teams didn’t want to relinquish the upper hand.

Andalusia trailed 33-28 after the third period.

The Lady Tigers employed a full-court press in the final period of the game, which gave AHS a bit of trouble on ball control and turnovers.

Alexis Lawrence got a 3-point play to go to put the Lady Bulldogs down 37-31 with 2:54 left in the contest.

During the night, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t find consistency, especially in the fourth period.

“It’s not basketball right now, it’s our personnel,” AHS coach Teresa Herring said about her young team. “We’ve got to take responsibility and they have to grow up a little bit.

“We’re growing up in front of everybody, which is hard,” she said. “We’ve got to fix ourselves.”

With 36.1 left in the game, Luverne led 40-31 and Andalusia’s Alexious Stallworth got two points late to cut the game to 41-33.

Lawrence led AHS with 11 points. Laticia Crittenden added eight points. Kanisha Johnson chipped in six for the Lady Dawgs.

Luverne’s Nyjah Thomas led the Lady Tigers with 16 points. Shakia Brantley had 10 points.

Andalusia will face Opp’s girls in the boys invitational tournament tomorrow night at 5:30 for one game only.
