MISSY MOORE

Missy Moore, 45, of Elba, passed away Sun., Dec. 2, 2012, in a Birmingham hospital.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 6, at First Baptist Church of New Brockton with Keahey Funeral Home directing and the Rev. Nathan S. Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at First Baptist Church of New Brockton. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, David Moore; sons, Russell (Keisha) Moore and Cory Moore, all of Elba;; daughters, Amanda (Rodney) Casey of Brundidge and Samantha Moore of Elba; and one grandchild, Rylee Casey of Brundidge.

BONNIE VICTORIA MEEKS WORLEY

Bonnie Victoria Meeks Worley, 92, wife of the late O. D. “Peck” Worley and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Tues., Dec. 4, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Dec. 7, from Harmony Baptist Church with burial following in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Cotter is officiating, and Wyatt Funeral Home directing. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

She was born July 23, 1920, in Poley, to John Sid and Lottie Henley Meeks. She and her beloved “Peck” lived on Airport Road in Sanford for 50 years. After retiring from the Andala Co., she worked at the First National Bank for 20 years. She enjoyed seven wonderful years at the Woodmoore Retirement Home in Opp.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Nelson Tucker of Hartford; grandchildren, Courtney and Larry Faulkner of Canton, Ga., Brett Tucker of Pelham and Tessa and Michael Mock of Andalusia; great-grandchildren, Augustus, Adeline and Morrisa Mock and Marin, Lauren and Willa Faulkner; brother, Johnnie Meeks; and specially loved “adopted” son and his wife, Hilton and Cathy Bozeman. God’s blessing on Joyce White for her dedicated and loving care.

Pallbearers will be Hilton Bozeman, Michael Mock, Larry Faulkner, Danny Meeks, Dennis Meeks and Anthony King.

MICHAEL CAROL MARLER

Micheal Carol Marler, 51 of Elba, departed this life Tues., Dec. 4, 2012, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

Funeral services will be held from Hayes Funeral Home Chapel today, Thurs., Dec. 6, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Luke Lane and Minister Jason Allums officiating. Committal services will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery of Elba.

Survivors include his father, Charles Carol Marler (Ethel) of Elba; daughter, Anna Marler Pate (Todd); granddaughter, Madison Pate, all of Andalusia; sister, Carolyn Moates (Tom) of Enterprise and Sherry Walker of Dothan; brother, Charles Carol “Charlie” Marler (Elizabeth) of Elba; step-brothers, Jerry Henderson (Kim) of Birmingham and Greg Henderson (Trish) of Auburn; step-sister, Debbie Smith (Marshal) of Dothan; nephews, Pat Moates (Kim) of Enterprise, Sam Moates (Brook) of Opelika and

Ryan Marler of Elba; nieces, Rae Walker and Caroline Marler, both of Dothan, and Chancey Marler of Elba; three great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Rue Marler.

 

DALLAS DENFORD RATHEL

Dallas Denford Rathel, 76, of Dozier, died Tues., Dec. 4, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., Dec. 7, from Foreman Funeral Home with interment following in Goodhope Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen Rathel; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Carl Ham, all of Dozier; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Keith and Connie Rathel of Huntsville; grandchildren, Haden Rathel, Mary Hardin Rathel; Emily Ham (Trey) Price and Dallas Ham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie and Edna Rathel of California, Donald Rathel of Phenix City and Dwight and Patsy Rathel of Red Level; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Joe Watkins of Andalusia and Dorothy and Robert Dean of Dozier.

Huey Faye Aughtman, 83, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Dec. 4, 2012, in Andalusia Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Fri., Dec. 7, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with military honors, the Rev. Frankie McVay officiating and interment following in Adams Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Survivors include sisters, Marie Crumpton of Andalusia and Mary Lowrey of Luverne; nieces and nephews, Greg (Heather) Lowrey, Michelle (Jason) Perdue and Theresa (Carey) Cummings; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Tommy and Sharri Cantaline.

LAVON RUTH EDGAR

Lavon Ruth Edgar, 78, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Dec. 4, 2012, in the Opp hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Fri., Dec. 7, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Boles and the Rev. Derwood Cleland officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8.

She is survived by her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Chuck Faulkner of Andalusia; her stepson, Bobby Earl Edgar of Andalusia; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Lois Baker of Hendersonville, S.C., and Lillian Brown of Racine, Wis.

DR. RAYMOND NATHANIEL BOWMAN

Dr. Raymond Nathaniel Bowman, 66, died Wed., Nov. 28, 2012, at Pine Hills Health and Rehab in Camden.

The son of Albert Cecil and Inez Peters Bowman, he was born and reared in Opp.  After graduating from high school, he attended Samford University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.  After completing two years of general surgery training at Vanderbilt Medical Center, he served for two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at White Sands Missile Range, N.M.  In 1979, he completed his urology residency at the Ochsner Medical Center and moved to El Dorado, where he practiced urology for 28 years.

A member of Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, Dr. Bowman also served terms on the boards of the South Arkansas Symphony and the El Dorado Council of Camp Fire.  He was chief of staff at Warner Brown Hospital, 1985-86 and from 1992-96, and served on the boards of the Arkansas Department of Health. He was a president of that board in 1995. In his professional life and his personal life, his goal was always to do the right thing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Bobby and Barron.

Among those who will miss his warm smile, his kindness, his intelligence and clever wit are his wife of 45 years, Sue Shaddix Bowman; his son, Sean Bowman of Stillwater, Okla.; and his daughter, Cate Campbell, and her husband, Joseph of Austin, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 7, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in El Dorado.
