Straughn roasts Excel

Straughn’s Brice Scott scored 11 of his 19 points in the first period to help lead the Tigers to a 67-57 area victory over Excel on Friday night.

Scott hit three 3-pointers in the opening period of the game, and teammate Hobie Hughes had a good second half to pace the Tigers by scoring 18 points for the night.

Straughn led 22-16 after the first period, and 34-26 at halftime.

The Tigers outscored EHS 16-10 in the third period to lead 50-36 going into the fourth.

Hughes ended up finishing the night with a double-double, adding 11 rebounds. Scott had five assists.

Additionally, JD Driver scored 10 points and had six each in rebounds and assists.

With the victory, SHS improves to 6-0 overall, and 1-0 in Class 3A, Area 2.

Straughn’s back in action on Monday at Red Level.

The Lady Tigers led 62-6 late in the fourth period, but EHS put up four points to finish the night in double figures.

Brittany Driver led SHS with 18 points. Paige Taylor had 11 points to pace the Lady Tigers (10-1).
