FHS queen to perform at Liberty Bowl

Locals already know that Florala High School homecoming queen Kendyl McDaniel is among royalty.woods

But, what they don’t know is that her crown has earned her an invitation to perform with America’s homecoming queens from across the nation in the halftime show at the annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl Football Classic on Dec. 31 in Memphis, Tenn.

The daughter of Angie and Toby McDaniel, she will join 88 other homecoming queens in the halftime show.

Part of the festivities will include a tour of St. Jude Child-ren’s Hospital to meet with the special patients and their families.

She’ll also take part in the parade packed with bowl game fans.

“In the letter, it said she was one of the top queens in her state and region of the country,” mom Angie said. “Their selection of who is invited is based on academic achievements, community activities and all around status as an outstanding individual.

“We can’t how excited we are for her,” she said.

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl Football Classic, featuring Iowa State versus Tulsa, kicks off at 2:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve on ESPN.
