CLARENCE NUTT

Clarence Nutt, 86, of Andalusia, formerly of Opp, passed away Mon., Dec. 31, 2012, in the local nursing home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., today, Wed., Jan. 2, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Kelly officiating and burial following in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at Keahey Funeral Home one hour prior to services.

Survivors include three sons, Tommy (Sara) Harris, Walter (Lois) Harris and Jackie Harris; two daughters, Ellen Self and Sabra Barnes, all Andalusia; sister, Foye Nutt Creel; brother, Thurman (Joann) Nutt, all of Opp; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six geat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Nutt; two daughters, Polly Gunter and Mary McKinley; his parents, Joseph and Trudie Nutt; and a brother, Truman Nutt.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Self, Ricky Barnes, Lynn Woodard, James Griggs, Josh Gunter and Chris Ammons.

 

EVA BASS FOWLER DAVIS

Eva Bass Fowler Davis, 94, of Andalusia, went to be with her Lord on Sat., Dec. 29, 2012. She passed away peacefully at Andalusia Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Wed., Jan. 2, 2013, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Davis officiating and burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

She was born May 9, 1918, to the late William Riley Bass and Gusta Cooper Bass.

She began work at Andala and Alatex at a very young age. She also worked at Funsten in Andalusia and retired after 20 years of service. She loved to garden and quilt, but especially loved to cook for her family. She loved the Lord and instilled that love in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She exemplified grace and beauty and was a role model to all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Molly Fowler, Stanley and Lynn Fowler, all of Andalusia, and Phillip Fowler of Dozier; daughters-in-law, Janice Fowler and Sherry Fowler DuBose; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Fowler and Jackie Fowler; grandchildren, Kim Fowler McMann, Stan Fowler and Amanda Lunsford; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Webb Driver and Hannah Noel Driver; brothers, Barney Bass and Horace Bass; and sisters, Dell Bass Watson, Velma Bass Poole and Maggie Bass Smith.

Pallbearers will be Brock Beck, David Carter, Josh Driver, Eddie Jernigan, Chris Mohon and James Sutton.

JAMES ALTON GUEST

James Alton Guest, 77, a resident of Dothan, formerly of Andalusia, died Sat., Dec. 29, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., today, Wed., Jan. 2, 2013, from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Wilkinson officiating and burial following in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana directing.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Randall “Randy” Guest.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Guest of Dothan; daughters, Melissa “Lisa” (Jeff) Russell of Swanne, Ga., Melanie (David) Lumpkin of Hoschton, Ga., and Lisa (Bobby) Murphy of Cedar Springs, Ga.; sons, Robert “Robbie” (Jackie) Guest of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Sid Couch of Marietta, Ga.; brothers, Bobby (Jeanette) Guest and Edwin (Jody) Butts, all of Montgomery; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

DEWARD ‘BO PETE’ DUBOSE

Deward “Bo Pete” DuBose, 79, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 31, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 3, 2013, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vernie Scott officiating and burial following in Old Bethesda Cemetery in Loango.

Visitation will be tonight at Foreman Funeral Home from 6 to 8.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret DuBose of Andalusia; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Tim Lawson of Andalusia; a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Barbara Pearson of DeLand, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Courtney Lawson, Travis Lawson, Waylon Pearson, Kenneth Pearson and Amanda Pearson.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Cory Lawson.

ALICE EARLEEN BROWDER JOHNSON

Alice Earleen Browder Johnson passed away on Sun., Dec. 30, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thurs., Jan. 3, 2013, at Southwide Baptist Church, located at 1307 County Highway 278 in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., with the Rev. Nathanial Belcher and the Rev. Enos Ali officiating. Interment will be by cremation, where she will be later buried near her parents in the Beda Cemetery in Beda, Ala.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the services.

She was born in Anda-lusia on Sept. 21, 1936, to Willie Alfred and Myrtice Inez Glimer Browder. She was an active member of Harvest House Ministries Church, where she diligently worked to help prosper the Kingdom of God. She loved the Lord and loved telling others about his love for them.

She loved her family, church and flowers. She took great pride in her flowers and demanded that her yard always be presentable to the neighborhood. She worked countless hours to feed the hungry and homeless at The House of Ester she co-founded in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. She always believed that God would provide for her needs, and He always did.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Jerry Wayne Maddox; and great-grandson, Dalton Wise.

She is survived by seven children: Cynthia Maddox of Evansville, Ind., Billy Patch of Geneva, Phyllis Shirah of Evansville, Ind., Roselynn Casey and husband James Russell Casey of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Jonathan (Randy) and wife Lisa Shirah of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Billie Franklin Shirah II of Malone, Fla., and James Leon Johnson and wife Susan of Paris, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister and special brother-in-law, Phillis and Dale Hinton of Jonesboro, Ga.; two nephews, Daniel and wife Janie Hinton and Steven Hinton of Georgia; five great-nephews; and one great-niece, all of Georgia. She is also survived by numerous cousins and friends and church family members.

Pallbearers will be Billy Patch, James Johnson, James Casey, William Patch, Randy Shirah and Michael Maddox.

Clary-Glenn Funeral Home and Gilmer Funeral Home are entrusted with the arrangements.

 

LOUISE POWELL BOWMAN

Louise Powell Bowman, 84, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., Dec. 29, 2012, in the local hospital.

Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 31, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hank Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Judson Baptist Church cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Judy Bowman of Andalusia; brother, Jack Powell of Eufaula; sister, Cora Powell Oswald of Andalusia; two grandchildren, Brad (Heather) Bowman and Jennifer (Shane) Harrison, all of Andalusia; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Harrison and Samantha Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Bowman, and a son, Don Bowman.

Serving as pallbearers were Larry Oswald, Rick Oswald, Doyle Powell, John Powell, Tex Powell and Bobby Powell.
