Scholarship night planned

Students considering continuing their education at the University of Alabama can get scholarship information at a special event hosted by the local alumni association later this month.

To arm students, families and guidance counselors with the most information possible, the representatives from the university’s National Alumni Association will hold an “A$AP Presentation.”

Local chapter president Wynne Glenn said the event on the alumni scholarship assistance program is open to students in eighth through 12th grades and will be held on Tues., Jan. 29, at 6 p.m., at Andalusia City Hall.

“This is a great way for all students to get information on how to ready themselves for college,” Glenn said. “It seems now that you have to start preparing early. Students have to work on resumes and start looking at scholarships. More people are going to college now, so that means more competition for scholarships. This program talks about how to make sure you put together the best package you can.”

Glenn said guest speaker for the event is Dean Charles L. “Chuck” Karr.

“Even if you don’t plan on going to Alabama, this program will tell you what’s out there,” Glenn said. “If you do plan to go, things like the scholarship application process, financial aid services, residential housing and application deadlines will be discussed.”

Parents and guidance counselors are encouraged to attend, she said.

Interested students should RSVP to (334) 427-3984 or (334) 222-5160 or (334) 504-1109 before Jan. 25 or by email to mgantt@bankccb.com or wynneglenn@andycable.com.
