Straughn went on a 15-0 run in the first period and the Lady Tigers went on to beat Daleville 56-22 to win their 22nd straight game on Saturday night.

SHS coach Scott Kinsaul said defense was the big key in the victory over the Lady Warhawks.

“I thought we played well, especially on the defensive side,” Kinsaul said.

The Lady Tigers got things going on a quick 6-0 run from the start.

Jacie Williamson nailed a trey to give her team a 9-0 lead.

Then, Straughn’s Mariah Bonham scored six of her 12 points in the first period on back-to-back 3-pointers to help give the Lady Tigers the 15-0 lead.

Daleville scored its first bucket with 2:01 left in the opening period on a putback.

Taylor Wood later got the back-end of a pair and Katelyn Kinsaul put in a jumper and SHS led 18-4 after the first period.

Brittany Driver, who led SHS with 14 points, got a putback to start the second period and Williamson later found Brittany who got Audrey Driver a good look for two points after a steal on the other end.

Straughn led 31-15 at halftime.

Williamson got another 3-pointer to start the third period and Bonham made her final two three-pointers as the Lady Tigers (22-1, 5-0 in Class 3A, Area 2) led 44-19 going into the fourth period.

At the start of the fourth period, Janelle Nurse got a trey and after Williamson made a pair of free throws to bring the game to 50-19, the clock ran and SHS cruised to victory on the night after it clinched the area crown.

“I’m so proud of these young ladies for working so hard and winning the right to host the area tournament,” Kinsaul said. “We have accomplished one of our goals and are now working toward the next goal.”

Williamson finished with 13 points for SHS.

Eternity Hayes led DHS with seven points.

Straughn will be back in action on Friday at home against Excel.
