At next week’s city council meeting, the Opp City Council is expected to adopt an ordinance that would place a fee on towing and impounded vehicles and provide clarity to the city’s policies.

Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said at a workshop that the city would establish a $25 processing fee per impounded vehicle that will be assessed at the time of impoundment.

Additionally, the processing fee must be paid for the vehicle to be released unless the judge stipulates otherwise.

“This $25 to get cars out would help the city,” he said.

Bartholomew said the need for the ordinance was brought by the Opp Police Department to clarify the city’s policies.

Bartholomew said that when a vehicle is towed in Opp, the city is on a rotation with Exxon and Nawlins.
