Bulldogs to utilize game plan against WCHS

Published 12:03am Friday, February 8, 2013

Andalusia will strive to get its first win over Wilcox Central tonight in the semifinals of the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament at WCHS.

The last couple times Andalusia played WCHS, it’s had a good game plan, but the team has beaten itself, the coach said.

“Ball handling and turning the ball over,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “Up there, we lost by six. They hit us by surprise that first time. We knew they were going to press us, but we didn’t know what they were going to do.”

When asked if pressing is a big part of the plan, Robertson said he doesn’t have the personnel to press during the game.

“We’ve got some who can press, but when we press we don’t have any size,” he said. “That’s the problem we’ve had all year.”

Robertson said this time of year is the most important part of the season.

“It’s a one-game season now,” he said. “We’ve got teams who are ranked and have great records. Some of them are going to get beat. We’re hoping for the same thing.”

In the past two to three weeks, Robertson said he’s seen Andalusia improve as a team.

Every day, the boys come in and work hard to get better and that’s what the coach said he’s proud of most.

“We had to virtually start over (at the beginning of the year),” Robertson said. “They’ve persevered and I’m proud of that.”

Admission to today’s games is $6 per person.
