PHS girls rout Kinston, 62-20

Pleasant Home left a win against Geneva County it would like back.

The Lady Eagles will have a chance to get their win back Saturday night in the Class 1A, Area 2 championship against host GCHS.

PHS defeated Kinston 62-20 in the area tournament semifinals Thursday night to earn a berth to the title game on Saturday. In the second game, GCHS defeated Florala, 57-26.

On Jan. 22, the Lady Eagles lost a close 48-45 contest to GCHS in what PHS coach Kelley Garner said was her team’s best effort.

“Our effort was outstanding,” Garner said after that loss. “This game was a great motivation to carry us into the area tournament.”

The motivation spilled over as PHS dominated Kinston from the start.

The Lady Eagles led 19-3 after the first period and 33-10 at halftime By the end of the third period, PHS led 54-15.

“We were very aggressive (Thursday night),” Garner said. “Even though the score was not close, we tried to play as if it was.”

With this victory, the Lady Eagles improve to 14-10 overall and will play Geneva County at 6 p.m. on Saturday for the tournament championship.

Pleasant Home’s Jade Self led the Lady Eagles with 21 points and seven steals. Brianna Dozier had 10 points and Raven Woods had 13. Abigail Kelley scored six points and Taylor Godwin had four points.

Sammie Stamnes had three points off the bench. Cassie Godwin had three points. Ashley Williamson scored two with six assists.

Lyndsee Edwards led FHS with 13 points.
