Former mayor: There’s life after politics

There’s life after politics, and former Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar has made the most of the last few months since leaving office in November as a two-term mayor.

Edgar has traveled the country, enjoyed his family’s company and most recently he and wife, Martha, traveled to Scottsdale, Ariz., for a Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, where Edgar purchased a restored 1932 Ford Coupe.

A long-time member of the LA Cruisers, the City of Opportunity’s car club, Edgar said he had the classic delivered on Tuesday to Doc’s Country Store.

On hand were Mrs. Edgar, his son Gus and daughter-in-law Stacie and a bevy of fellow LA Cruisers, all ready to gloat at the newest addition to the club’s montage of classics.

“We purchased the car on Jan. 17,” Edgar said. “And had it shipped here. We didn’t drive it there. We were only able to crank it up and sit in it.”

After a quick drive around the lot at Doc’s, a giddy Edgar said it drove beautifully.

“I wanted one of these cars since I was 15 years old,” he said. “I’m sure I’m going to enjoy it. It’s a beauty.”

Edgar plans to display it at the LA Cruisers’ annual car show in conjunction with OppFest in October.
