LBWCC makes tourney

Published 12:03am Saturday, March 2, 2013

LBWCC’s men and women’s basketball teams won just enough conference games to clinch a spot to play in the Alabama Community College Conference basketball tournament championships in the coming days.

Both teams will play in the tournament on the campus of Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.

The women’s tournament begins tomorrow, where fourth-seeded Lady Saints out of the ACCC South will play fifth-seeded Snead State from the North, at 1 p.m.

The men’s tournament will begin on Wed., March 6, and the fifth-seed Saints will face the fourth-seeded Snead State at 1 p.m.

Both tournaments are in a single elimination format. The top two seeds from each conference get a bye in the first round.

If the Lady Saints were to win tomorrow, then they’ll face the top-seed from the ACCC North in Shelton State at 1 p.m. on Monday.

If the men’s basketball team were to win on Wednesday, then they’ll face Chattahoochee Valley, the No. 1 seed from the ACCC South, at 3 p.m. on Thursday in the second round.

The women’s championship game is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The men’s championship is at 5 p.m. on Sat., March 9.

LBWCC’s women (9-12 overall, and 8-4 in ACCC South) lost to Snead State two times before during the regular season. SSCC is still undefeated going into tournament play.

LBWCC’s men (8-16 overall, and 6-8 in conference play) split with Snead State during the regular season. Snead State’s men’s team is 13-15 overall, and 5-7 in conference play.
