Andalusia holds basketball banquet Monday night

Andalusia held its 34th annual basketball banquet Monday night at the Bulldog Bistro.

School administrators and coaches recognized and celebrated the efforts of the varsity cheerleaders, and boys and girls basketball teams this season.

AHS cheer sponsor Charlotte Smith recognized each cheerleader by grade, the Bulldog mascot — Hunter Dendy — and gave out special awards.

Courtney Finley received the most spirited award; and Haley Snider and Raegan Eiland received the best all around award. Eiland also received the senior academic excellence award.

In girls basketball, AHS coach Teresa Herring thanked all of those who contributed to the team’s success this year.

Herring recognized each player by grade, and handed out special awards.

D’Ashia Johnson won the academic award and Bulldog award; Laticia Crittenden also won the Bulldog award; Shandricka Thompkins earned the most-improved award; Alexis Lawrence won the sixth man award; Kanisha Johnson was named the defensive player of the year; and Tyleshia Malcolm was named the offensive player of the year.

In boys basketball, AHS coaches Marshall Locke and Richard Robertson recognized members from both the B-team and varsity boys basketball team by grade.

Additionally, Robertson named letter winners.

Special awards for the varsity squad were awarded based on performance on the hardwood.

Devante Jackson won the newcomer of the year award; Jackson and Jalen Cross won the highest scorer award; Cross was the leading rebounder; Jackson won the highest free-throw award; Sam Byrd and Cross were named team captains; and Randy Robertson won the academic award.
