PAULA ELAINE JOYNER

Paula Elaine Joyner, 45, of East Brewton, passed away Tues., March 5, 2013, in a Pensacola, Fla., nursing facility after a brief illness.

She was a native of Brewton and lifelong resident of East Brewton. She was a member of the East Brewton Church of the Nazarene. A 1986 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and a 1990 graduate of Auburn University, she taught special homebound children for the Escambia County Board of Education for 20 years.

Funeral services iwll be held at 11 a.m., today, Fri., March 8, at East Brewton Church of Nazarene with Dr. James A. Meadows and the Rev. Herbert Heller officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Crawford Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

She is survived by her mother, Ellen (Clyde) Godwin of East Brewton; two brothers, Danny B (Louise M.) Joyner and Randy (Rhonda) Joyner, all of Brewton; one sister, Linda (Steve) Knox of Andalusia; five nephews, Darren Joyner, Sam J. Frazier, Nicholas Frazier, Reid Joyner and Rhett Joyner; two great-nephews; and a number of nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Lewis Joyner; brother, John David Joyner; and nephew, Brock Joyner.

A. W. Donaldson Jr., 87, of Andalusia, passed away Wed. March 6, 2013, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Fri., March 8, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Harrell Cushing officiating and interment following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at Foreman Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his son-in-law, Jerry Kennedy of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Melissa and Thad Chandler of Killen, Kim and Casey Thompson and Matt and Nichole Kennedy, all of Andalusia; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Donaldson, Charlie Donaldson, Anthony King, Casey Thompson, Stinson Thompson and Thad Chandler.

GEORGE S. STOKES

George S. Stokes, 75, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., March 4, 2013, in a Crestview, Fla., hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., today, Fri., March 8, at the Cedar Grove Church of Christ with Brother Eddie Boggas officiating.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Thomasson (Esker), Betty Jo Vinson (Harrison) and Charlotte Bryant (Murray), all of Andalusia, and Mittie Knowles (David) and Amelia Lindsey (Jimmie), all of Red Level; brother, James Austin Stokes Jr. of Andalusia; and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cola Stokes, and his sister, Winifred Terry.

Pallbearers will be Roddy Thomasson, Greg Bryant, Ricky Vinson, Eddie Lindsey, Jim Stokes and Alan Lindsey.

Honorary pallbearer will be Vince Vinson.

 

PATRICIA ANN BATES HOWELL

Patricia Ann Bates Howell, 53, of Andalusia passed away Tues., March 5, 2013, in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., today, Fri., March 8, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Turman officiating and interment following in Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Howell; daughters, Candace Ward Hudson, both of Andalusia, and Nekia Michelle Everhart of Madison, Miss., and Larecia Shay Laney of Andalusia; her mother, Era Messick of Andalusia; grandchildren, Zachary Ward, Madison Ward, Wyatt Everhart, Hannah Everhart, Ezekiel Everhart, Benjamin Everhart and Brayden Laney; and step-grandchildren, Jason Walden and Danielle Walden.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Bates and stepson, Randall Walden.

Serving as pallbearers will be Johnnie Ward, Zachary Ward, Madison Ward, Wyatt Everhart, Jason Walden and Randy Ward. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Ken Elliot.

MAX METCALF

Max Metcalf, 67, of Opp, died Thurs., March 7, 2013, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sun., March 10, from the First United Methodist Church of Opp, with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens.

The family will be receiving friends at Wyatt Funeral Home Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and at the First United Methodist Church one hour prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Angie D. Metcalf of Opp; son, Chad (Kim) Metcalf of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; sisters, Glenda McLain of Opp and Peggy (Buford) Sanders of San Antonio, Texas; mother-in-law, Hazel Dooling, of Geneva; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malzie and Ernest Metcalf; brother, Billy Metcalf, and sister, Wynora Griffin.

HARRY WOODWARD WILLIAMS

Harry Woodward Williams, 68, passed away on Mon., March 4, 2013, after a battle with cancer.

He was employed by Thompson Engineering as a senior inspector. He was previously in the banking industry for 20 years and worked at Covington County Bank in Andalusia.

He was a very generous and loving man to his family and friends. He was an avid reader with a love for learning. He also had a great sense of humor, and he loved to make people smile. He was very much loved and he will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Mon., March 11, at 3:30 p.m. at Foreman Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Timothy Trent officiating.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Williams (Pedro) Hernandez of Birmingham; grandson, William Hernandez; brothers, Dr. Reddoch (Judy) Williams and Dr. Charlie (Linda) Williams; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Brooks Williams, and mother, Charlotte Woodward Williams of Opp.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbiana for their skilled and compassionate care.

JOANN ADKINS

JoAnn Adkins, originally from Huntington, W. Va., and current resident of Andalusia, left to be with the Lord on Tues., March 5, 2013.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1947, and was preceded in death by her father, Avis Adkins, and her nephew, Steven Christopher Early.

She is survived by her mother, Velma Adkins of Andalusia; her sister, Linda (Steve) Early of Marietta, Ga.; niece, Margaret Early of Valdosta, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Thurs., March 7, at 11 a.m., at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Perry officiating and interment following in Enon Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Vocals were provided by Flint Harrelson, and pallbearers were Johnnie Norris, Cal Norris, Jonathon Norris, Gerald Norris, Donnie Powell and Shaun Harrelson. A reception followed the funeral service in the Fellowship Hall of Enon Baptist Church.

The family will accept flowers of memorial to the Chris Early Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Anne’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, Marietta, GA 30062.
