The homes of at least three families were saved from fire Friday thanks to the quick response of three area fire departments.

Called out in response to a grass fire, firefighters arrived to a fully involved mobile home on Snuffy Road, off U.S. Hwy. 84, just after 3 p.m., Babbie Fire Chief Chris Short said.

Short said work by his department, Sanford Volunteer Fire Department and South Alabama Regional Airport firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to the remaining mobile homes in the area.

“We were able to stop the fire before it got to the second trailer, thank goodness,” he said. “Luckily, the one that burned was abandoned, so no one is homeless because of the fire.”

The park’s remaining four trailers were untouched by fire, he said.
