Straughn parents form golf booster club

A group of Straughn parents have formed a booster club for the Tigers golf team.corresponding

For the past three seasons, the team has existed off of limited donations.

Last week, the Tigers began their fourth season of golf and in order to provide more of what the team needs this year, the club is looking for sponsors, team parent Kim Rabren said.

“We also want to promote the sport of golf at Straughn in order to let kids who are interested in the sport have an opportunity to participate,” Rabren said. “Golf is an awesome sport that promotes discipline and wisdom. We are thrilled to have so much interest at Straughn.”

The booster club is made up of parents from the 11 players on the team and a school office liaison.

“We are actively looking for sponsors for this year’s team,” Rabren said.

Rabren said the club has purchased bags and team shirts for the boys, but would love to do more.

“We would like to provide them with more apparel to wear to their matches as well as cover some of the travel and food expenses they will incur this season,” she said.

In fact, the newly formed booster club is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. at Evans Barnes Golf Club.

The tournament is a two-man scramble and the entry fee is $200 per team.

Cash prizes and other prizes will be awarded.

“We really need teams to sign up to make this fundraiser a success,” Rabren said.

Forms are available at the SHS office as well as the golf course.
