Andalusia’s Bulldogs dropped two games in the Best of the Best tournament at Troy University’s Riddle-Pace Stadium on Friday night.

AHS fell in game one to Class 4A’s top-ranked Charles Henderson 7-5, and then suffered an “interesting” 5-4 loss to sixth-ranked UMS-Wright in the night cap.

With these losses, Andalusia falls to 15-6 on the season.

The Bulldogs will play Stanhope Elmore at 2 p.m. today at Riddle-Pace Stadium, and will follow with a 5 p.m. game against Northview at CHHS.

GAME 2

UMS-Wright 5, Andalusia 4

Andalusia out-hit UMS-Wright 10-3 in the second-game loss, but three runs in the sixth helped lift UMS to the win.

The Bulldogs of Mobile were able to plate four runs on walks from Andalusia, Bulldogs coach Jonathan Rasberry said.

“They capitalized on that,” he said. “Some walks hurt us.”

Daniel Henderson and Quinton Maddox both pitched for Andalusia. Maddox ended up with the loss, despite not giving up a hit.

Rasberry said three errors hurt AHS bad.

Henderson (two doubles) and Grayson Campbell went 2-for-3 each; Zach Ward went 2-for-4 with two doubles; Hunter Earnest went 1-for-1; and Jud Rogers went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Andalusia.

AHS loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning after Ward led off with a double.

Ross Graham hit a hard ground ball up the middle, but UMS-Wright back-handed the ball to start a game-ending double play.

“We competed well,” Rasberry said about the day. “We’ve got to clean up some errors and walks. If we didn’t do that, then we’d have wins over two top 10 teams.”

Getting to play at Riddle-Pace Stadium was “exciting” for the players, the coach said.

“The crazy thing is that we would’ve hit three or four home runs if we had played on our field,” Rasberry quipped. “We played well, and we swung the bat well.”

GAME 1

Charles Henderson 7, Andalusia 5

Andalusia took a 3-2 lead after the third inning, and narrowed the gap later in the fifth, but the Trojans tacked on three runs in the sixth and closed the game out in the seventh for the win.

The Trojans scored one run each in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings before the three-run sixth.

Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Bulldogs. Maddox, Brandon Smith and Ward had an RBI each. Henderson and Will Harrison had one hit each.

Ward earned the loss on the mound.
