Straughn’s Lady Tigers overcame two deficits and capitalized on Andalusia’s mistakes in the field to win 17-7 yesterday.

Andalusia scored four runs in the first inning, while Straughn scored only one.

The Lady Bulldogs only managed three more runs in the third and fourth innings.

Straughn scored four in the third; four in the fifth and eight in the sixth in the win.

SHS coach Trent Taylor said Andalusia hit well.

“This is two days in a row that we hit the ball well,” Taylor said. “We were down 4-0, then we were tied 5-5 and then we got down 7-5, and these girls found a way to come back.

“One to nine, the girls hit the ball very well today,” he said.

Taylor said the win was a team effort.

AHS coach Brad Garner said his girls hit the ball well, too.

“But we had too many mistakes in the field to win,” he said.

Olivia Dixon went 1-for-4; Emily Terry went 1-for-4; Andi Hughes went 2-for-2; Abbie Young went 2-for-3; Maggie Lambert went 1-for-3; Bre Dixon went 1-for-3; and Hannah Burnette went 1-for-3 for AHS.

Molly Stewart went 2-for-4; Paige Taylor went 3-for-4; and Hayden Willis 2-for-4 to lead SHS.

Andalusia will host Florala on Thursday, while Straughn hosts Red Level in regular season action.

In area action between Opp and Excel, the Lady Bobcats fell in a 5-1 decision at EHS.

Opp only tallied four his in the loss to the Lady Panthers.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first two innings, but EHS tacked on two runs each in the fifth and sixth to take the win.

“We didn’t hit the ball hard,” OHS coach Jimmy Reeves said.

With this loss, OHS falls to 18-5, and 3-1 in Class 3A, Area 2.
